Myerstown’s story reaches back to the early 1730s, when German settlers arrived along Tulpehocken Creek. Early maps called the area “Herclerode” after landowner Valentine Herclerode. In 1757, Isaac Meier purchased 249 acres here, and by the 1760s, he was laying out streets for a town he named Tulpehocken Town. Meier was tragically killed in 1770, and locals began referring to the settlement as “Meier’s Town,” which evolved to today’s spelling. In the 1820s a section of the Union Canal ran through the borough, with multiple locks and canal-boat building that spurred industry and commerce. Myerstown later incorporated as a borough in 1912 and remains closely tied to Lebanon County’s agricultural and manufacturing heritage.
